Putting 2500 Square Miles in Perspective

As media attention shifts away from the oil rig explosion and toward answering the urgent question of whether Elena Kagan may be a homosexual (*gasp*), it’s important to remember that we currently have oil spilling into the ocean which has already covered over 2500 square miles.  In order to put this into perspective, a utility was developed which allows the visualization of the oil spill over land.  Let’s take my hometown of Winfield, WV for example:

Significant portion of the state.  Now let’s try a major city, say NYC:

If you’re not concerned with the size of this thing, then you should be.
