Massey Energy has been hit with 23 different violations in the past two weeks at its Upper Big Branch mine in West Virginia.  This is the same mine in which 29 miners died last month.  Twenty three violations in two weeks may seem like a lot (and it is), but these are only violations that can be detected from the surface.  Because of the explosion that killed the 29 miners, federal inspectors can still not get underground to determine the number of violations there.  In Massey’s defense, only 3 of the 23 violations are considered “significant and substantial,” so that’s something…
