BP Oil Disaster-Day 44
On the 44th day of BP’s bungling:
- Oil reaches Alabama beaches and is “everywhere.”
- BP’s latest effort to stop the leak involves a saw (not kidding):
The blade of a diamond wire cutter being used to slice off the damaged riser pipe got stuck — much like a saw on a tree limb — and stalled the “cut and cap” operation, said U.S. Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, the federal government’s point man in the Gulf.
- Oil expected to hit Florida coastline in the next couple of days
- Roughly 31% of the Gulf is now closed to fishing.
This will be a daily update until the oil leak is stopped or BP no longer exists…whichever happens first.
