World Cup 2010 Recap
The 2010 FIFA World Cup ended this weekend with Spain’s somewhat ugly and boring victory over Netherlands. We’re now back to generally ignoring and forgetting soccer, but before that I wanted to turn to Shane, our resident soccer expert, for his take on the tournament. After all, he did pick the United States to beat Ghana (wait a second…):
With Spain being a favorite to win, they did just that. Never did they really dominate anyone, it seemed like they did what they needed to do to win. I was impressed with Uruguay’s run, as they represented South America well. We can’t say the same for Brazil (tournament favorite), they were just shut down by Netherlands and Netherlands outplayed them. Due to me being out of town this weekend, I have nothing to add about Spain and Netherlands game.
Also, the United States will do nothing but get better. This World Cup was huge for American soccer. I don’t know that we’ll ever be a Brazil or Netherlands or Spain, but we should definitely be a top team in the coming years.
Hope this helps.
So there you have it. Our soccer expert may have missed the actual championship game (wtf?!), but nevertheless, there’s your recap. Now back to caring solely about American sports.
